Our popular breakfast series continues with the Studio Museum's Nico Wheadon, discussing the broadening landscape of cultural production, public programs, and community engagement with WNYC producer Jennifer Sendrow and CaribBEING founder, Shelley Worrell.

ABOUT THE SPEAKERS
Nico Wheadon is Director of Public Programs & Community Engagement at the Studio Museum in Harlem. She is also on faculty at Hartford Art School teaching Public Art Professional Practices, and has guest-lectured at Brown University, the Center for Curatorial Leadership, and Howard University. In her independent practice as a writer, photographer, and cultural producer, Wheadon conducts ongoing fieldwork in arts-led regeneration, human geography and participatory design. She has worked closely with city agencies, foundations for the arts, and non-profit organizations to support the careers of contemporary artists of color, and the communities they represent. As a published arts and culture writer, Wheadon has contributed to NOTOFU, Studio, Distorted, ArtVoices and NuktaArt magazines, alongside numerous artist books and exhibition catalogues worldwide. She has also served on funding panels at New York City Department of Cultural Affairs and the Connecticut Office of the Arts. She has served on steering committees and juries at the Metropolitan Museum of Art, WomensActivism.NYC, Addis Video Art Festival, Harlem Arts Festival, and the Robert Blackburn Printmaking Workshop.
Jennifer Sendrow is the Executive Producer of The Greene Space at WNYC & WQXR + Multiplatform Content. She has more than fifteen years of experience as a writer and producer for print, broadcast, and digital media and a decade producing live events. She first arrived at WNYC as a guest on The Leonard Lopate Show, but soon enough she was on the other side of the studio producing news, arts, and culture segments with Oscar-winning actors, Iranian clerics, presidential historians, neuroscientists, and even a few tugboat captains. Jennifer has edited dozens of titles for Michelin, Explorer, and Not For Tourists. She was the founding producer of Cooking with Emeril hosted by Emeril Lagasse as well as the health and wellness show Whole Living on Sirius XM, where she also developed and produced many live audience specials hosted by people like Isaac Mizrahi, Tom Colicchio, Bill Telepan, and Martha Stewart. At the short-lived FM News 101.9, Jennifer anchored newscasts, reported breaking news across the five boroughs, and crafted features on subjects that ranged from the history of Christmas fruitcake to the hiring practices at the FDNY.
Shelley Worrell is the Founder and Chief Curator of caribBEING, a thriving cultural organization that stands at the crossroads of film, art, and culture. Since its founding Shelley has produced over 200 public programs in partnetship with top cultural institutions, most notably BRIC, Brooklyn Historical Society, Brooklyn Museum, MoCADA, Municipal Art Society, Queens Museum, and the Studio Museum in Harlem. She has also taken caribBEING global with presentations in Poland, France, Barbados, and Haiti to present Brooklyn, Caribbean Capital of the World, as an extension of her new initiative to develop a Little Caribbean in Flatbush. For her work as a cultural entrepreneur, Shelley has been featured in domestic and international media including Brooklyn Magazine, Black Enterprise, Caribbean Life, Good Morning America, Guardian Media and hyperallergic. Prior to caribBEING Shelley had a successful career in media and technology working for top brands, including Google, The History Channel, A&E, and Time Warner with roles in global partnerships and business development, and spearheaded the launch of over 100 digital and TV products.
